The SWAT Gallery, also at the Emporium, will host a special book signing of Professor John Nolt's latest's environmental study,
A Land Imperiled: The Declining Health of the Southern Appalachian Bioregion,
with photographs by Mignon Naegeli,
just released by The University of Tennessee Press.
"Vigil" honors the courage and dedication of the international peace network, Women in Black, particularly its Knoxville chapter. "Vigil" also feature other area peace groups holding vigils for peace.
Women in Black is a contemporary cross-cultural phenomenon consisting of more than 150 groups world wide, of women who are committed to peace with justice and actively opposed to injustice, war, militarism, and other forms of violence. For over three years, Knoxville's Women in Black have been standing for peace every Tuesday at noon in front of the Federal Building at Locust and Cumberland.
"Vigil" is the first solo exhibition in the Emporium.
Renovated and reopened in July 2004 as Knoxville's first true Arts Center, the Emporium houses the administrative offices of the Arts and Culture Alliance, nine other arts and cultural organizations, and studio and gallery space for twelve individual artists.
