Dear friends, fellow artists, and colleagues,

We are excited about the growing global awareness of planetary issues. Even politicians and corporate CEOs now begin to understand how much the world economy depends on our planet's limited resources and the health of its natural life support systems. We hope President-elect Barack Obama will be able to deliver on the great expectations of change for the better. Even more importantly: Mother Earth needs all OUR ...

2008

Dear friends and colleagues,

While many reports during the outgoing year found the pace of global change to be accelerating and to exceed earlier projections, there were also positive developments. Growing awareness of the severity of our planet's situation among thoughtful politicians and economic leaders are starting to result in innovative initiatives and greater cooperation to protect the Earth and the health of its inhabitants.

We hope the new year will bring you much joy and pleasant experiences in our natural environment. May it encourage you to keep up your spirits and redouble your efforts to shrink your ecological footprint and to contribute to the greening of all our activities.

Mignon's photographs on our greetings card depict merely one-fifth of Cedar Creek Wind Farm at the northern edge of the Pawnee National Grassland in Colorado.

The 300-Megawatt, 274-turbine installation is one of our nation's largest wind farms. It generates enough carbon-free electricity to satisfy the annual electric power consumption of about 90,000 average U.S. homes. It was erected in less than one year by some 415 workers.

At the dedication ceremony in December 2007, Colorado Governor Ritter welcomed the successful project as a significant step toward reaching the state's goal of increasing its renewable energy supply to 20 percent by 2020. This producer of "home-grown" energy also provides more than 20 permanent full-time monitoring and maintenance jobs and additionally contracts with service providers from the region for specific tasks.
